CRICOVA – it is the only and world’s largest wine storage with an unique and natural microclimate.
Cricova cellars, that was founded in 1952. They are situated under of the small “Cricova” town and those cellars form an underground city. The basements were formed after limestone extraction from the mines. Later, from cellars winemakers formed avenues and streets with wine, which are stored in the surrounding niches: Cabernet, Aligote, Sauvignon, etc. These avenues and streets have a length of 120 km in total. The constant temperature is about 12 degrees and humidity that does not exceed 97-98% – are the most favorable conditions for the storage of 30 million l of quality wine.
Today, the wooden gate of Cricova winery is open to everyone.
- THE HISTORICO – ARCHEOLOGICAL COMPLEX

The history of Old Orhei brings us back to the far back in the past -fifteenth century: reign of Stefan cel Mare. In the summer of 1470, it was finished the construction of the fortress on the rocky shore of Reut. The city’s population was about two thousand inhabitants. In the early 70-ies of the XV century Orhei reached its greatest prosperity as a handicraft and trade center of Moldavian Principality. Artifacts that were found during excavations tell about the development of pottery, smithcraft, nailery, leather craft, Shoemaking, jewelry and other crafts. After the attack of the Crimean Tatars in 1499 and in 1510 respectively, Orhei was not able to restore, but attempts to revive the city were taken by hospodar Jeremiah Movila. However, already in 1603, 1633 years Orhei-called “old”.Many scientists and lovers of antiques made great efforts to find the Old Orhei, because after its destruction, no one knew where there was this town. In 1947, the first expedition of archaeologists under the direction of G.D.Smirnov to Cape Pestere allowed to determine where Old Orhei was. During 20 years, it has been found more than 200 installations: workshops, storage rooms, cellars, houses, tools, coins, and many others. But as it turned out, Old Orhei is not the most ancient settlement that existed in this place.
- THE MANUK BAY MANOR.
Excursion in the most beautiful manor near Chisinau, built by A.Bernadazzi projects. Talking about it, is inexcusably, and is impossible not to mention the host and the founder of the estate – Manuk-bay Mirzoyan. Historians by right consider him to be one of the most enigmatic persons of the XIX century, great diplomat and a talented merchant.
The Manor of Manuk-Bay is located in Hincesti city about 40 km west of Chisinau. Now the palace houses the Museum of History and Local History.
- Winery- “ MILESTII MICI ”
Surrounded by a romantic aura, that natural wine depository – the biggest in the world – has appeared in the limestone galleries at the depth of 30-85 meters in the 70’s of the previous century.
The wines that are stored here are the products of the harvest of different years, between 1986 and 1991. Spirit of the past times is felt in this underground wine city growing out of the large tunnels. Natural limestone galleries with total length of 200 km may be passed by transport.
And the streets of the underground wine city, placed on a surface of 55 km, are full of oak buts that are standing there as guardians on the watch .Constant temperature of 12 – 14°C and relative humidity of 85-95% of this “wine kingdom” ideally contributes both to storage of Moldavian strategic reserve and to discovery of natural qualities of elite wines. “Golden Collection” the world largest collection of bottles with vine, as evidenced by the fact that there are stored the best valuable wines! Here you can see more than 2 million bottles, which have been recorded in the Guinness Book of Records in 2005.
- Fortress “ Soroca ”
Fortress Soroca – – is the sample of defensive architecture of Moldova. Initially, the fortress was made by wood and surrounded by high wooden palisade. Entrance to the fortress was located on the hill. Inside the fortress, there were the soldiers, who were always ready for battle. The attackers climbed up, overcame the palisade but here the defenders were waiting for them. The fortress was not always able to hold back the onslaught of the enemies, it was vulnerable and not once burned in a flame of fire. In 1499, Stefan cel Mare has built quadrangular fortress with high entrance and defensive rampart. The fortress served as a cover for the Moldovan warders from the Tartar troops.
- Back in U. S. S. R.
Tiraspol city -the capital of the unrecognized Transnistrian Moldovan Republic. The town was founded thanks to the Peace Treaty of Jassy, which was concluded after the Russian-Turkish War (1787-1791 gg.) between Turkey and Russia. According to this Treaty, Turkey ceded Russia the region of Ochakov that included the land between the rivers Dniester and Southern Bug. Empress Ecatherine II, wishing to strengthen the border on the left bank of the Dniester, entrusts the governor V.Kahovsky “overlook the land between the Bug and the Dniester” and prepare proposals for its administrative and territorial structure. About his calculations, V.Kahovsky reported to St. Petersburg: “New created fortress would be a means to attract new residents to the city, and the city where will opened trading days and trade fairs will be beneficial to the fortress”. The project of the future fortress has made by engineer Major Franz de Volan. And the work on strengthening of the border along the Dniester River and the construction of the fortress were entrusted to A.V. Suvorov “so that these should lead to carelessness against the enemy attacks”. A.V. Suvorov has laid Median fortress in 1792, and this date is the year of foundation of the city of Tiraspol. By the end of 1795, the construction of the fortress was almost completed. By this time close to the fortress under construction lived about 2500 people and on 27 January 1975 the settlement was granted status of city. Centuries have passed. City Tiraspol began to extend and during the construction of Suvorov micro district from the fortress remains only one powder vault of bastion “Saint Vladimir”. In 2014, in one of the vault was opened an exposition dedicated to the fortress of Tiraspol, in the other one- a church.
- Monastery “ Curchi ”
The excursion to the North direction, Monastery Curchi – is a genuine gem of architectural art. At various times it was the centre of work and unique creation of priests, monks, churchwardens, architects, landscape designers. Today the Curchi monastery revives the spirituality of the Orthodox people and preserves ancient traditions. The tourists visiting the monastery will find here peace of mind and become strengthened in the Christian faith.
- Winery- “Chateau Vartely”
“Chateau Vartely” – a unique Moldavan project for producing wines according to classic European quality standards. This is the first winery in the country of complete cycle – from growing grapes to bottling – modeled on a French chateau.
Chateau is located on lands in the Central part of the country. The vineyards, near the river, provide rich harvests of the finest white grapes, aided by the unique soil composition and comfortable climate conditions. Other part of the vineyards, where are grown red sorts of grapes reaching the production of wine at Chateau, are placed in the South of Moldova. The winegrowers and wine makers chose these lands, which are amazingly similar with the best plots of the province Bordeaux, after a careful analysis of soil and climate. Mature and young vineyards occupy about 380 ha, there are planted young vines brought from European winegrowers, as well adapted material from Moldovan winegrowers. Chateau’s vineyards lay over on plains, fact that provides an optimal lightening to vines.
